Audi Sport Asia teams aim high heading to mighty Mount Fuji
• Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai in triple title contention ahead of third GT World Challenge Asia 2026 encounter
• Andrés Pato and Jaxon Evans fourth in Pro/Am standings following maiden class victory together
• Third Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II for Andy Tan and Thierry Vermeulen

Fuji, July 9, 2026 – FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom’s star Chinese line-up of Yu Kuai and Cheng Congfu head into the third double-header of the 2026 GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS season at the top of their game, and raring to take on the 4.563km Fuji International Speedway from July 10-12. Also raring to go is the exciting new-this-season Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom Pro/Am pairing of Jaxon Evans and Andrés Pato, who lie fourth in the hotly-contested class, while a third Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II is entered by Absolute Corse for Andy Tan and Max Verstappen-backed Dutchman Thierry Vermeulen.

“This weekend's action at GT World Challenge Asia at Fuji Speedway will be absolutely crucial for the championship. After a great run for both Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom cars in Round 2 at Madelika, we need to ensure to keep the momentum and score heavily across both races in Japan.” said Alexander Blackie, Head of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “A warm welcome back to the Audi paddock too for Anderson Tanoto, who with driver partner Thierry Vermeulen will be expertly supported by long-time Audi customer outfit Absolute Racing.”

Reigning GT3 Silver champions Cheng and Yu arrive in Japan second in the class and third on the overall GT3 Drivers’ leaderboard having opened their season with an overall victory and podium over the first four races.

As well as keeping their GT3 Drivers’ and Silver title tilts on course, Cheng and Yu sit just two points off the top of the leaderboard in the China Cup. Meanwhile, 25-year-old Yu also leads the GT World Challenge Asia GT3 SRO GT Academy table.

A highly successful round two in Indonesia saw Evans and Pato snatch a pair of attention-grabbing overall podiums, plus their first Pro/Am victory together. The results propelled them up to fourth on both the Drivers’ and Pro/Am leaderboards, and signalled to their rivals the new pairing is a force to be reckoned with.

Former Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup champion Pato is now a seasoned campaigner, with countless race wins in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 to his name, including the 2023 Sepang 12 Hours. Team mate Jaxon, while new to the marque by comparison, has wasted no time harnessing both the pace and agility of the Audi with impressive results.

A strong season opening by both Audi squads has also put Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom second amongst the 11-strong Teams’ title chase in the prestigious multi-marque championship.

In Fuji, a third Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II is entered by Absolute Corse for Indonesian Andy Tan and Pro/Am team mate, 23-year-old Dutchman Vermeulen. Tan began his motorsport career in an Audi R8 LMS GT4 in 2018, winning the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup GT4 title that year, and ending the following season as vice-champion. Since then, Tan has competed regularly across the region and beyond in major series such as GT World Challenge Asia, Thailand Super Series, Asian Le Mans Series and IMSA Sports Car Challenge.

Tan’s team mate Vermeulen, meanwhile, is backed by four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen, who is managed by his father Raymond. In addition to his Asian campaign, the young talent is also racing in DTM and the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup this season.

Official practice begins at Fuji International Speedway on Friday, July 10, with a one-hour session for all competitors and an additional 30-minutes for the Bronze-ranked drivers. A one-hour pre-qualifying session follows, before two 15-minute qualifying sessions from 08:30 on Saturday to set the starting grids for each of the 60-minute races. Race one gets underway at 12:35 on Saturday, with the final encounter of the weekend starting at 11:35 on Sunday (all times UTC+09:00).
