Overall podium for Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai on Beijing Street Circuit

Beijing, October 5, 2026 – FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom Chinese stars Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai took a sensational overall podium finish in race two at the Beijing Street Circuit to move up to third in the GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS GT3 Drivers Championship with one round of the season remaining. Second on the road and third in the final race two classification, the pair also strengthened their lead of the Silver Cup standings, and clinched the 2026 China Cup title with two races in hand.
“It was a rollercoaster weekend for the Audi teams and customers for Audi Sport customer racing Asia’s home race here in Beijing.” said Alexander Blackie, Head of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “Despite some setbacks, we leave Beijing with Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai crowned China Cup champions and still in the hunt for the overall title ahead of the upcoming season finale in Shanghai.”
There was crushing disappointment in race two by contrast for Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom’s Pro/Am pairing of Andrés Pato and Jaxon Evans, when a misguided move by a rival spun the Indonesian around and into the barrier while on course for a top-four overall finish and a Pro/Am podium. This came following a frustrating race one for both Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II entries, which saw the Pro/Am pair end their race in the barrier, while Yu and Cheng were hit with a drive-through penalty while running second overall.

Race 1
Cheng Congfu missed out on pole by less than four one-hundredths of second after an intensely-fought qualifying session, and the FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom driver was in hot pursuit of the race leader the second the field was released onto the newly-resurfaced track.
There were early problems for talented Indonesian Am driver Andrés Pato, however. The Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom driver was tagged by a rival off the start, dropping him three places from his P11 start. Although Pato recovered quickly, gaining back a position, moments later he was caught out by a slowing car ahead, ending his race in the barrier.
The incident brought out the Full Course Yellow (FCY) as Pato’s car was recovered with 45 minutes left on the clock. The track went green for only seconds before a second FCY followed almost immediately, the caution extended through the pit window by race control.
Cheng handed the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II to team mate Yu Kuai in P2, and the 25-year-old launched into his stint in strong winning contention. The track went green with 20 minutes remaining, and Yu and Cheng looked good for a strong overall and Silver Cup points haul. But heartbreak was to come when the team was handed a drive through penalty for a FCY speed infraction, dropping Yu to P13 and out of the points.
In the remaining time, Yu climbed two positions and tantalisingly close to a points finish, but ultimately ran out of time, crossing the line P11 overall and just off the Silver Cup podium.

Race 2
It was an all-Audi row four for the start of race two, with both Jaxon Evans and Yu Kuai making aggressive starts as the field was unleashed for a final time on the 4.894km street track. Both made gains up the order, with Yu snatching the Silver Cup lead and Evans up to P5 before the safety car was called out just moments after the start.
With 45 minutes remaining on the clock, racing resumed and while Evans briefly lost P5 to a rival, he quickly reclaimed it before resuming his charge towards the overall podium.
Before the pit window opened, the New Zealander was up to P4, simultaneously defending from a persistent rival behind while keeping his eyes on the prize ahead. Yu, meanwhile, had lost some ground but retained the lead of the Silver Cup class as he handed over to Cheng.
Evans remained out on track, pushing the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II to its limits as he expertly negotiated the tricky twists and turns of the street circuit, eventually handing the car over to Am team mate Andrés Pato in fourth overall.
As the second stint got underway, a Full Course Yellow (FCY) was converted into a full safety car suspension as officials cleared a stranded car and repaired a barrier.
By the suspension, Cheng was already up to P7 overall and when the track went green with 14 minutes remaining, he catapulted away to resume his lightning charge through the order.
With ten minutes remaining, Cheng was up to third overall but there was no let up in his advance as he pursued the leading pair. With six minutes on the clock, Cheng swept up to second and set about hunting down the race leader.
Pato, meanwhile, was skilfully keeping all comers at bay, pounding out consistently quick laps and holding onto fourth overall, on course for the Pro/Am podium. Moments later though, disaster struck when a rival made contact during a misjudged attempted overtake, clipping the Indonesian into the barrier.
Pato managed to dislodge the car and continue, but inevitably dropped down the order to eventually cross the line in P12 overall. To add to the disappointment, the team was handed a penalty for a yellow flag infringement which dropped them to P15 in the final classification.
Up at the front though, Cheng took the chequered flag second overall on the road, securing a magnificent outright podium and the Silver Cup victory, while also lifting the 2026 China Cup title for himself and FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom team mate Yu. Despite a post-race five-second penalty for a pit lane speed infringement, which dropped the pair to third in the final classification, Cheng and Yu remain in title contention as the season heads towards its climax.
