Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai crowned GT World Challenge Asia Silver champions
• FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom stars take second consecutive title in Shanghai
• Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II earns fourth straight Silver crown
• Yu Kuai named first-ever Asian SRO GT Academy winner

Shanghai, November 2, 2026 – FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom Chinese stars Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai were crowned GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS GT3 Silver champions for the second consecutive year at the Shanghai International Circuit. Two more class podiums clinched the title by three points, their successful campaign going right down to the wire in the final race of the season. Having already wrapped up the China Cup title with a round to spare, there was a further accolade for Yu when he won the first-ever Asian GT SRO GT Academy Driver prize. However, amidst the jubilation there was disappointment for the exciting Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom Pro/Am duo of Andrés Pato and Jaxon Evans when a technical issue denied them a final encounter in race two after another eye-catching outing in the first Shanghai clash.

“Congratulations to Yu Kuai, Cheng Congfu and FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom for winning the 2026 GT World Challenge Asia Silver Cup championship title to go along with the already-secured China Cup. In addition, Yu Kuai winning the inaugural SRO GT Academy in Asia against his direct peers is a clear proof of concept for the Audi Sport Asia Junior Programme. Over the last six seasons with Audi he has worked so hard and improved immeasurably as a driver. Now his reward is to compete in the biggest and most important GT3 race on the global calendar, the 2027 Spa 24 Hours.” said Alexander Blackie, Head of Audi Sport customer racing Asia.

Cheng and Yu had to fight hard and smart for their second Silver crown, overcoming 16-seconds of additional pit stop penalties in race one to finish sixth overall and third in Silver, slipping to second in the class standings. With the Pros starting behind them in race two, it was a case of brains over brawn with the focus on the main prize over an eventful 28-laps, the pair rounding out the season with a final Silver podium and a top ten overall finish.

Strong stints in race one from Pato and Evans saw them challenge for a top-top seven overall finish - just off the Pro/Am podium - at times, but the pair was ultimately classified in P11, with a five-second pit stop infringement penalty. Unable to take the start of race two, fans were denied a final opportunity to watch the exciting new pairing in action one last time.

Yu and Cheng’s second Silver crown was the fourth consecutive such title for the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II. In 2024, Cheng took Silver honours alongside Adderly Fong, while Ling Kang and Cao Qi won in 2023.

The FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom drivers finished sixth overall in the GT3 Drivers’ standings having remained in title contention right up to the final round. Pato and Evans finished a creditable sixth in the ultra-competitive Pro/Am category, 12th in the GT3 overall standings after their first season together.

Race 1
Well aware of the looming success penalty, courtesy of their overall podium in Beijing, the FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom squad knew it had it all to do in race one. Their Beijing success, combined with the additional pit stop time for Silver entries, would add an almost-insurmountable 16 seconds to the driver changeover pit stop.

A strong getaway was all the more important therefore, and Cheng Congfu more than delivered when he launched into the opening stint from P4, third of the Silver entries. The talented Chinese Audi specialist immediately gained a position, putting the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II straight into overall podium contention on the opening lap.

Despite sustaining damage in the melee off the start, a rapid recovery by Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom’s Andrés Pato saw him gain two places and charge into the top 10 overall. Battling in the middle of a six-car train, Pato then made further gains with some bold and beautifully-executed moves to climb to P8 by the pit window.

The Indonesian was early to pit to hand over to Pro/Am team mate Jaxon Evans, the New Zealander retaining the four-place gains made by Pato as he headed into his stint.

For FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom it was a different story, despite Cheng bringing the car into pit lane in third overall. Yu emerged into the pack in P6, facing a more than eight-second gap to the car ahead. However, the impressive youngster was undaunted and set about closing down the delta.

Meanwhile, the sister Audi was hit with a five-second penalty for a pit stop infringement, a blow which would drop them down to 11th overall by the flag, sixth of the Pro/Am finishers.

Yu, however, still had much to do and continued to pound out consistently fast, precise laps to reel in his rival ahead. Despite closing the gap to just three-and-a-half tenths of a second by the flag, Yu ran out of road to make the move.

The results knocked Cheng and Yu out of overall GT3 Driver title contention, but kept them to within three points of the new Silver class leader ahead of the final showdown of the season.

Race 2
Racing for the Silver title and flying the flag for Audi, Yu took the start from P4 and second of the Silver entrants, a daunting armada of Pro drivers lined up behind. As the field was unleashed for the final time this season, the emphasis was on avoiding trouble, Yu detouring off track to avoid contact and ultimately conceding three track positions.

Yu regained a position and, crucially, snatched the lead of the Silver class, pulling clear rapidly once the move was complete. When the pit window opened, Yu handed the class lead over to Cheng Congfu, who rejoined the field sixth overall.

Cheng roared into his stint and started to close in on the car ahead, but in the closing stages of the race his pace slowed, dropping him down the order. In a nail biting final few minutes, Cheng fought on, ultimately ending the season with a top ten overall result, a second-place Silver podium finish earning him his third successive GT World Challenge Asia Silver crown.
