Jaxon Evans
Jaxon Evans

Outright victory for Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai in Audi 1-2 finish at Mandalika
• FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom takes emphatic outright GT World Challenge Asia win in Indonesia
• Double overall podiums and Pro/Am victory for Jaxon Evans and Andrés Pato
• Strong points haul bolsters title hopes of both Audi squads
• Double overall podiums and Pro/Am victory for Jaxon Evans and Andrés Pato
• Strong points haul bolsters title hopes of both Audi squads
Mandalika, May 3, 2026 – FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom Silver duo Cheng Congfu and Yu Kuai swept to a convincing outright victory in race one in round two of GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS at Indonesia’s 4.310km Mandalika International Circuit. An outstanding weekend from Pro/Am campaigners Jaxon Evans and Andrés Pato earned the pair their maiden class victory together in race one, completing a stunning 1-2 overall finish for Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom, followed by a second overall podium finish in third.
“What a weekend at GT World Challenge Asia for Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom,” said Alexander Blackie, Head of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “An excellent 1-2 finish in race one was followed up by another podium in race two. With strong points on the board it’s now full steam ahead back to home base next month in Shanghai for round three.”
A storming start to race one by Cheng from P4, followed by a mighty defensive move at the restart, saw the Chinese FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom ace hand the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II over to team mate Yu in overall podium contention. Cheng’s 25-year-old protégé seized the gauntlet, soaring to outright victory with a lightning-quick masterclass of consistency and precision.
Taking the start on home turf from P8, Pato fiercely resisted all challengers in the second Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom car, characteristically spirited defence and gutsy determination seeing the Indonesian hand the car to Evans in Pro/Am podium contention. The New Zealander tore into his stint, setting a blistering pace, holding and extending the advantage to finish second overall and taking his and Pato’s debut Pro/Am victory together.
Evans started race two from the front row, maintaining a vice-like grip on P2 overall throughout his stint, before handing over to Pato. The Indonesian negotiated a tumultuous second half to take their second overall podium of the weekend with a third-place finish. Yu and Cheng, meanwhile, were hobbled by both an additional 26-second pit stop success penalty - courtesy of their race one win – plus a P11 start. Despite the odds and an early-race incident dropping Yu down the order, an eye-catching late-race charge by Cheng saw the pair miss out on a Silver podium by a little over a tenth of a second.
The championship continues next month at the home of Chinese motorsport, the Shanghai International Circuit, for the third double-header of the season from June 4-6.

Race 1
Rocketing away at the start from P4 as part of an all-Silver four-car charge, Cheng Congfu wasted no time in climbing up into overall podium contention, pulling clear of his rivals behind and on the hunt for the race lead.
Pato initially lost a place off the start from P8, having qualified third-fastest of the Pro/Am runners, but fought hard, regaining the position by the time a Full Course Yellow (FCY) suspension was called following an incident.
The pit window was delayed while the FCY was converted into a brief safety car period, and at the restart, Cheng shook off an early challenge with a decisive defensive move to retain P3 overall. Once Cheng had put space between the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II and his rival, he pitted to hand the wheel to Yu Kuai.
Pato was also forced to defend, successfully keeping his fierce rivals at bay before passing the car to team mate Jaxon Evans in Pro/Am podium contention.
Yu stormed into his stint with lightning speed, turning the timing screens purple and setting the fastest lap of the race. Likewise, Jaxon also had the bit between his teeth, a feisty early defence ultimately proving crucial. Second in class, moments later an incident saw Evans climb to P2 overall behind Yu.
With 15 minutes remaining, Yu led the pack by a margin of more than eight seconds, while Evans’ scorching pace saw him pull away from the chasing pack, edging ever closer to Yu.
At the flag, Yu led home a triumphant Audi Sport Asia one-two finish, taking his fifth series victory by a margin of more than five seconds. The win moved Yu and Cheng up to second in the overall Drivers’ standings, and reduced the deficit to the top of the GT3 Silver leaderboard to just six points.
Pato proudly celebrated second overall alongside Evans at his home track, the new pairing also taking their maiden Pro/Am victory together just three races in to the 2026 season. Their outstanding performance elevated the pair to third in the Pro/Am title chase.

Race 2
A blistering pace in the second qualifying session meant Jaxon Evans started race two from P2, having at one stage held provisional pole during the 15-minute session.
After their race one victory, FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom’s Yu had a lot of work to do from P11, but as third fastest of the GT3 Silver qualifiers, was well in the running to collect valuable class points. However, with an additional 26-seconds added to the mandatory pit stop time courtesy of their race one win, he and Cheng still had a mountain to climb.
Evans made a strong getaway off the start, courageously holding his line into turn one to retain P2, before pulling clear of the pack. Further down the order, Yu was embroiled in a frenetic mid-pack opening lap, shunted off track and dropping seven places. The culprit was later handed a five-second penalty for the incident, but that did not help the task now facing Yu.
The safety car was called out moments later following another incident, by which point Yu had already regained two places. At the restart, Evans again survived another challenge for P2, while Yu continued his fightback, harnessing the superior speed and agility of the Audi to challenge for P2 in class.
Yu was the first of the two squads to pit, handing over to Cheng Congfu following the mandated extended pit stop, the latter inevitably emerging at the back of the field. Evans pitted later, with Pato taking the wheel following their additional success pit stop penalty of an extra ten seconds.
Cheng was up to P15 overall at a FCY triggered by a stationery car with 14 minutes remaining, gaining two more positions at the restart. Pato, meanwhile, was embroiled in a fierce four-car battle for fourth overall. Nimbly sidestepping an incident when two rivals ahead made contact promoted Pato to third overall.
Further down the order, Cheng mounted an eye-catching quest for the Silver podium over the final few minutes, annihilating his class rival’s advantage by lapping more than a second a lap faster. Ultimately, and despite reducing the deficit to just 0.121 of a second by the flag, Cheng ran out of time in which to pass, crossing the line fourth in class.
Evans and Pato celebrated on the overall podium for the second time, moving up to fourth in the Pro/Am standings after four races. Cheng and Yu maintained their second place on the GT3 Silver leaderboard.
